Using your Canva Template

Getting Your Template

Where to find your file

After purchasing, go to your Etsy account and navigate to Your Account → Purchases and Reviews. Find your StoZ order and click Download Files. You’ll receive a PDF — open it and click the Canva link inside to get started.

Creating your copy

When the link opens, Canva will prompt you to save a copy to your account. Click “Use template” or “Edit a copy.” This creates a personal copy that lives in your Canva account — only you can see and edit it, and my original design stays untouched no matter what changes you make.

What you need

You’ll need a free Canva account to use your template. If you don’t have one yet, signing up at canva.com takes about two minutes and is completely free.

What You Can (and Can’t) Edit

The text fields are yours to customize

Once your template is open, click on any text field to start editing. The fields you can change are:

  • Child’s name
  • Age
  • Date and time
  • Location and address
  • RSVP contact name and number or email

Why the background is locked — and why that’s a good thing

The illustrated elements, colors, fonts, and layout are intentionally locked. This is a deliberate design choice, not a limitation. It means your finished invitation will look exactly like the preview image — clean, professional, and exactly as designed — every single time. You’re only ever touching text, which keeps editing fast and stress-free.

No Canva Pro required — and here’s why

Canva offers special premium elements (illustrations, graphics, and photos) for paid accounts, marked with a small crown icon in the editor. If you add one of those crowned elements yourself, Canva will prompt you to upgrade or pay before downloading.

StoZ invitations are built differently. The design elements are exported as a single locked background image before the template is shared with you — which means the Pro graphics are already baked in. You’ll never see a crown prompt, a watermark, or an upgrade request on anything that came with your template. A free Canva account is genuinely all you need.

Tips for editing text

Canva saves your work automatically — no save button needed

Click once to select a text box, then double-click to begin typing

Highlight your text and use the size selector in the top toolbar to adjust font size

Use Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (Mac) to undo any change

Downloading & Using your template

Choose the right format for how you’ll use it

When you’re happy with your edits, click Share → Download in the top right corner. The format you choose matters:

FormatBest for
PDF PrintPrinting at home, Staples, Walgreens, Costco, FedEx
JPG or PNGEmailing or sharing digitally
PNG at 1080 × 1920pxSending by text message or Instagram Stories

For the sharpest printed invitations

Always choose PDF Print when you plan to print. It exports at 300 DPI — the professional standard for crisp, clear text and graphics. JPG and PNG are optimized for screens and will look noticeably softer if printed.

For texting or sharing on your phone

Download as PNG and resize to 1080 × 1920px. This is a portrait format built for smartphone screens — it’ll look sharp in a text message, WhatsApp, or Instagram Story. You can resize inside Canva using the Resize tool before downloading, or crop after downloading on your phone.

Troubleshooting

The link isn’t working or I’m seeing an error page
Try opening the link in a different browser — Chrome tends to work best with Canva. If you copied the link from the PDF, make sure the full URL was captured (long links sometimes get cut off). Paste it directly into a new Chrome window rather than clicking through.
If you’re seeing a message that says “this link is no longer working,” it’s almost always a browser or account issue, not a broken link. Try logging out of Canva, closing the browser, and opening the link fresh.
Still not working? Message me on Etsy and I’ll get it sorted quickly.

Canva is asking me to upgrade to Pro
If you’re seeing a Pro upgrade prompt, it’s almost certainly because you’ve added a new Canva element — one with a small crown icon — to the design yourself. Those are Canva’s premium assets and do require a paid account to download.
The elements that came with your StoZ template will never trigger that prompt. To resolve it, simply remove the crowned element you added and replace it with something from Canva’s free library (no crown icon), or delete it entirely. Once all Pro elements are removed, you can download for free.
If you haven’t added anything and you’re still seeing a Pro prompt, message me — that shouldn’t be happening.

I can’t edit the text
The most common cause is opening the template without saving a copy first. If you’re viewing the template without having clicked “Use template” or “Edit a copy,” it will appear as view-only. Go back to the original link from your PDF, click through to create your copy, and it should be fully editable.
If you’ve made your copy and text still won’t respond, try refreshing the page or logging out of Canva and back in.

My printed invitation looks blurry
This is almost always a download format issue. Make sure you chose PDF Print — not PDF Standard, JPG, or PNG — before downloading. PDF Print is the only format that exports at 300 DPI, which is what you need for sharp printed text. If you downloaded in the wrong format, just go back to your Canva copy and re-download with the correct setting.

The background design looks wrong or has disappeared
Try refreshing the page first — Canva occasionally has display glitches that resolve on their own. If the background is consistently missing or distorted, message me with a screenshot and I’ll take a look.

I made a mistake and want to start over
Go back to the original Canva link in your PDF and click “Use template” again to open a completely fresh copy. Your previous version will still be saved in your Canva account under Projects if you want to reference it — the two copies are completely independent.

Can I use this on my phone or tablet?
Yes — the free Canva app works well for editing and downloading. Open the template link on your phone, tap “Use template” to save your copy, and edit by tapping any text field. For downloading, tap Share → Download in the app and choose your format.
One practical note: if you’re printing, it’s easier to download from a desktop or laptop and send the file to a printer from there. Mobile is great for digital sharing.
